Participating in  this contest does not only mean spending your precious time to win an IPod; you will also learn and gain experience in using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) a powerful decision making methodology used by leaders in government, industry, and academia. Since Expert Choice will give participants access to Comparion Core for two months, at a minimum you will gain experience using a simple but powerful decision making tool.

Your challenge is to create the most accurate decision model for the topic: Choosing the best computer to buy or recommend. To do so, you will use Expert Choice’s software, Comparion Core.  Comparion Suite is an easy-to-use solution for collaboration and prioritization, delivering transparent team decision-making, tight strategic alignment, and easy-to-communicate results.

Using Comparion to build your model, you will:

  1. Further define the decision goal.
  2. Structure the decision into objectives (and sub-objectives) that relate to the goal and select alternatives (in the case colleges and universities) to be evaluated.
  3. Select individuals to evaluate the model (friends, subject matter experts, etc.).
  4. Evaluate your mode collaborating with your team in real-time or any-time to prioritize objectives, evaluate alternatives, and incorporate quantitative data.
  5. Synthesize your team’s intuition and data and generate trade-offs and what-if scenarios. Use these outcomes to make better decisions with more alignment, buy-in, and confidence.

If you don’t have any ideas of what a decision model is; don’t panic! You can still participate. What we call a “decision model” is in fact a representation of the decision process. It’s a simple to create and includes: the criteria that mainly influence the decision (also called objectives), but also the alternative choices that we are facing along with many other data that could help us make a more accurate choices. Every participant will have access to plenty of resources and tutorial videos providing more detailed information.

You will be evaluated on the following criteria: the quality of your objectives, the pertinence of your alternatives, the respect of the guidelines, the use of appropriate stakeholders and the completion of a short PowerPoint presentation. Expert Choice’s employees will be the judges.

Registration is simple. Please send me an e-mail at SDWcontest@expertchoice.com from your college or university e-mail address. You will then be able to access Comparion Core to create your model as well as further description of the requirements. A confirmation e-mail with links to video tutorials and helpful hits will be then sent to you.

We already accept your submissions so I hope to see a lot of your models!
